The snow drops have flowered (and thankfully the snow has thawed) and the crocuses in the causeway in Marlow look amazing. This can only mean one thing – Spring Is Here. It’s a great time of year, not only in nature, but also for wedding planners. The dresses look whiter, the grass is greener and somehow, even the church bells seem to ring louder. I love this time of year as, incorporating the beautiful back drop of the spring day, always brings something special to the wedding video. The beautiful natural lighting and the joy on everyone’s faces that it’s getting warmer are reflected in the memories of the day and are something to be treasured. So happy planning and happy spring. Let’s hope we all get that spring in our step over the next few days. At Special Memories, we are in the process of updating our website with our new HD offering, but in the meantime you can always contact us by email or telephone if you have any queries. Let’s raise a glass to a spectacular wedding year and hope all days are as beautiful as today.

I was lying in bed this evening reading, a rare privilage - even if it was a business book - when something struck me - It was a comment that one of our clients mentioned recently - they said. We can't wait to see the video - I know that the church part was a complete blur to us both, so it would be good to see what happened!!! That got me thinking. I speak to so many people at wedding fairs who say they don't need a video, and yet I don't think this couple are any more forgetful than the next. I genuinely feel that the emotions as well as the events which take place after the ceremony itself so often leave a couple unable to remember what happened in the service or within the ceremony. It is common for me to say "what are you doing on your wedding day" to which you get a surprising array of answers. Eventually with a little guidence I can generally get them back to the bit about making promises to one another. Here again something which we are able to capture. Not in a "you see you said you would..." kind of way, more in a way that rekindles those feelings that were had so many years ago... So if you are planning your wedding, have it filmed. Please note I did not say get us to film it, although that would be a privilage and we would be only to happy to be there for you. I am planning on writing some articles for those determined to film it themselves to ensure they have all the neccessary's covered. Do however make sure you have the opportunity to relive your day! Did I mention us finding our wedding video last weekend? If not I will save that for another day's blog. If so, appologies it's been a good but long day! Till next time Jay

Another good day at a wedding fair. One of the joys is meeting so many other photographers and many of them saying that they recommend Special Memories to their clients. I was wondering why that might be so I thought I would get one of them to answer that & let you know what they feel about videography and it’s relationship with photography. “We often get asked if we offer videography as part of our photography services by potential brides, my answer always is no and for several reasons. For us photography and videography are very different disciplines and skills and to get the best results you should be looking at someone who specialises in one or the other. We specialise in creating a story of the day, capturing the overall emotion. What we cannot do is capture all the sights and sounds like video can. For an all round, clear memory of the day, couples should be looking to get both a videographer and photographer. We always work WITH videographers to create the best memory of the day.” Hannah Gamble, Artis Studios www.artisstudios.com

As I put the finishing touches to my most unusual wedding this year, well I say that! It would be fair to say in many sences it was your standard format, with one noteable exception... I was not permitted in the church. I was aware of this in advance, and respected the wishes of the client not to consult with the church in advance, however when I arrived at the church early in the day I happened upon the vicar who was kind enough to advise me that under no circumstances was I to bring my equipment into the church and if I did so, I would be escorted out. No amount of reassurance, along with my usual "I'm a card carrying bible believeing christian and we respect the importance of...." yes I had more to say but no she was not going to hear it, had any effect whatso ever. Well I thought (or wish I had been able to think, you see it was raining outside) I will film people standing outside before the service and be able to film them while they are chatting outside afterwards. OH NO - you did note my comment about it raining! Well suffice it to say everyone ran into the church - including the bridal party! Everyone also stayed in the church afterwards, and I was still unable to press the little red button. The moral of the story is Check with your church that they will let you film your wedding. If not I am always happy to chat with them. There was another 2 weddings this year where the starting point was no but after discussions and in one case the transfer of monies, we were able to capture it. If they will not let you, please let me know anyway - I am still trying to understand why and conversations always make things interesting.
