It’s Sunday and once again I find myself at a wedding fair – this time at the lovely venue of Warbrook House. The exhibitor next to me offers a wonderful array of balloons so I thought I would ask her to explain what it is about balloons that works so well at weddings…

Balloons can bring to the room to life, from a small wedding venue to large ballrooms, balloons fill the space with elegant designs. As most couples these days are working to a budget, balloons are a cost effective way to decorate your venue. Be it a small personal wedding or a grand occasion balloons can create a magical setting.

Being at a wedding fair always offers an opportunity to speak to other suppliers - we spoke to a toastmaster we are always happy to have at the weddings we film.... we said....

Why have a Toastmaster?

Weddings offer no regression and therefore pass the pressure to the pro!

A toastmaster will ensure your event runs smoothly linking up all the services and enabling  the special day to be a memorable one.

What if we arrive early?
What if we arrive late?
Guest book?
Bouquets?
Toasts?

These are the headliners but the real worth is in the planning and understanding that the role offers.

A friend for the day.
A timeless occasion that flowed beautifully.
A calm head when all others were worrying.

Please feel free to contact me or view my website, equally I’m more than happy to discuss your requirements.

Good morning all

Sitting here this morning after a busy week and have realised how much has happened in the last 7 days.  This time last week I was on the south coast filming the preparations at a brides home.  It was one of my more unusual weddings as we had been booked without having the opportunity to meet with the bride.  The joys of being a member of Bartercard does mean that at times we do have weddings like that.

As many of you will know we also have been getting our new studio space ready and this week we managed to move in.  Having been very uncertain about the ability to get some of the bigger pieces of furniture in there.  It was great when we managed to get it all in there.

Having dedicated space to be able to meet with prospective clients before their special day as well as having space to review wedding dvd’s not to mention all of the editing and production which we have to do

Saturday was a lovely wedding in High Wycombe.  Being in a church full of people all very much enjoying being a part of the service, both invited guests and the church family.  They then had nibbles and cake at the church before going onto the reception at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Marlow.  I will blog on it in more detail later but it still is amazing to me that drinking a pint of beer would be cheaper than drinking orange and lemonade...

So here I am - it’s Sunday and my 2nd last wedding fair of the season.  I hope you all have a lovely day and as always would love to hear from you if there are any subjects you would like covered on this blog.

Till next time

On Sunday we are off to the Oakley Court Wedding Fair www.berkshireweddingfairs.co.uk/venues-oakley-court.htm where we will be launching our new price plan for 2009. All our offerings will now be HD compatible and we are really excited about the revolution in the quality of our videos that this change is going to make.

This also means that you have until Saturday night to book with us at 2008 prices – it’s like having our very own end of year sale!

We’d love to see you at the fair, so if you’re coming along, please pop by and see us. We’d love to know what you think of the changes to our site, plus there will be lots of other fantastic opportunities to get thought and ideas in planning your big day.

If you can’t make it to the fair, then why don’t you drop me a line and let me know your thoughts on the changes to our site or any other subject that you feel needs covering in my blog.

Until next time

Jay

Here I am at another wedding fair - joined this time by a specialist in hats, so I thought I would find out what she thought about hats, if they are still the must have item for weddings in 2009

Fasinators are going to be big this year, easy to wear and complimentary on any age. We can help you with your colour scheme, and even make something just for you.  Hats are still popular for Mothers of the Bride, and colours this year are black and white, lime and still purple. Come to Felicity Hat Hire, Beaconsfield! We now sell hand bags, pashmina’s and costume jewellery.
We look forward to seeing you.

So there you have it!

Until next time

Jay

Another good day at a wedding fair.  One of the joys is meeting so many other photographers and many of them saying that they recommend Special Memories to their clients.

I was wondering why that might be so I thought I would get one of them to answer that & let you know what they feel about videography and it’s relationship with photography.

“We often get asked if we offer videography as part of our photography services by potential brides, my answer always is no and for several reasons.  For us photography and videography are very different disciplines and skills and to get the best results you should be looking at someone who specialises in one or the other.   We specialise in creating a story of the day, capturing the overall emotion.  What we cannot do is capture all the sights and sounds like video can.  For an all round, clear memory of the day, couples should be looking to get both a videographer and photographer.

We always work WITH videographers to create the best memory of the day.”

Firstly - to all those who came and saw us at the Monkey Island Wedding fair yesterday, some of whom I am guessing will be logging onto the website to have a look over the next few days, thank you!

It was great to meet so many folk who were planning weddings!  What a lovely venue it is.

Now on to the topic of my blog.  Well you see I have this wonderful new website - and it really is a really fantastic thing.  Just occasionally we come across little things which have to be tweeked to ensure that they are working.  It would appear that our newsletter subscription page is just one such.  So for those of you who kindly subscribed, unfortunately there is currently a problem with it so your subscription does not appear to have gone through.  I will update the blog again once it is back up and running.  Thank you for your patience.

I guess what I am saying is that I should have taken a note on paper of your e-mail addresses so that I could have subscribed for you and ensured that everything was working properly. Anyway I am sure we will have it all up and running for the next wedding fair this sunday in Maidenhead!

All the best and I am sure it will be a much happier blog tomorrow :)

So I have enjoyed my last lie in on a Sunday for a while, although with 2 puppies and 2 children under 5, 8.30 constitutes a lie in!

From next week we see the start of the wedding fair season, and I am sure many of you will be looking forward to meeting all the exhibitors, seeing what is available.  Next sunday I am at Monkey Island Hotel so if you are in the area, please do drop by!

My guess is that many a dry cleaner, printer & a vast array of wedding suppliers will have a busy week this week getting ready for the new season!

Have a great Sunday, and enjoy the shows next week!

All the best

Jay

I know that the next 48 hours can put quite a strain on those people who have wanted to make sure that they have lots of time to plan their wedding.  Why is that??  Well simply put the midnight hour on the 31st December changes everything, from "we are getting married next year" to.... we only have XX months to plan the rest of the wedding!!!

Please don't panic, the good news is that it is also the start to the Wedding fair season!  We have the privilage of attending around 7 wedding fairs this coming season - do drop us a line if you wish to know when and where we will be.  On top of that our approach to working with clients is that we can always point you at suppliers who can help.  Take a look at our venue's and suppliers page for more information on some of them.

May I wish you all, those getting married, those already married and those who never want to get married (although I am a little confused how you are reading this) a very happy new year - May 2009 be your best year yet.

All the best

Jay Blake

What a wonderful day.

I was at the lovely Sir Christopher Wren Hotel in windsor today with some of our favorite suppliers.

While there we were asked how referrals worked within the wedding industry by someone just trying to find their feet.  I explained that in my experience the best referrals are those given to people we know and trust and this can easily be broken down if payment is brought into the equasion.

So be assured - my links are to people I am happy to link with, not those who have paid me to be there - do drop by and have a look at it.

To all of you who visited us there - thank you for dropping by!

Jay
